Mathematics and Economics

Math is the language of the universe. It is how we use logical reasoning to explain big ideas like symmetry, chaos, infinity, change, and truth. Some mathematicians study patterns for their own sake: often even the simplest problems can reveal beautiful and unexpected structures in the universe. Other mathematicians study how these patterns enable us to better understand other fields, ranging from physics to economics, neuroscience to astronomy, and meteorology to music. This sub-section includes articles from all areas of pure and applied mathematics, covering fundamental ideas, cutting-edge advances, and a broad range of applications. We want to show all our young readers that mathematics is not only essential for describing the real world but is also accessible to everyone and is an amazing natural source of beauty in its own right.

Economics is like a giant puzzle that applies math and other tools to help us understand how our world works. We live in a world where resources are limited, but our wants and needs are many. That means we have to make smart choices. Economics studies how individuals, businesses, governments, and other organizations allocate resources to meet their needs and wants. Using economics, we learn about how people trade things with each other and how prices are worked out based on supply and demand. There are two main branches of economics: microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomists focus on the behavior of people and firms, and how they interact in markets and make decisions. Macroeconomists examine the behavior of national and global economies as a whole, including issues such as economic growth, inflation, and unemployment.

Economics also teaches us how governments can help make things fair for everyone, by setting rules and regulations that protect people and ensuring that everyone has access to the things they need - like education and health care - to live happy and healthy lives. In this sub-section, we show you the excitement of economics and how you can contribute to making the world a better and fairer place for everyone.
