About this collection

Humans have an innate curiosity for their surroundings, but some are so driven to find answers that they dedicate their lives to very specific research questions. All around the world, there are teams of researchers that, driven by their innovative questions about our surroundings, try to use their creativity and knowledge to find much needed answers.

Scientists are passionate about discovering new things and making the world a better place. They help us understand how things work, develop new medicines, find solutions to problems, and protect our environment.

Every day at the Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), hundreds of researchers study the mysterious reasons behind many illnesses that affect people all around the world and try to find a cure for them. BCH scientists come in many flavors. Some of them are biologists who explore living organisms such as bacteria, viruses, and cells; others are chemists who study the reactions between substances. There are also physicists who investigate forces and energies that rule our body functions and interactions with the outside world.

In 2021, in collaboration with Frontiers for Young Minds, a journal dedicated to publishing scientific papers written for kids, the BCH Postdoc Association launched the annual “Young Minds Science Review Event”. Every year, real-life scientists working every day in our hospital write in plain language research papers about their new groundbreaking discoveries that are then reviewed by Young Reviewers (kids age 8-15).

This first-of-its-kind eBook brings together all the articles published through our initiative in the past 2 years. Like all Frontiers for Young Minds articles, these papers talk about cutting-edge science discoveries or topics and have been reviewed and approved by kids like you!

Are you curious and always interested in understanding how things happen? Well, Good news! You might have a budding scientist inside you!
